Porsche 911 facelift- what to expect

Porsche launched a facelift for its latest generation of the 911 sports car in late 2014. In more than four decades this was the biggest upgrade it had got. Now two years later, the German automaker has released a facelift for this generation. It debuted globally in January and will be launched in the Indian market tomorrow.   Ahead of the launch here are some of the updates that Porsche is bringing with this latest 911.

Firstly, Porsche has announced that this facelift will include the new turbo range both in hardtop and convertible as well as the Carrera and Carrera S lineup of cars. The large range of cars has already been listed on the German sportcar maker’s with price announcement being scheduled for tomorrow.

Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S
These slot in below the 911 Turbo range and now get turbocharged 3.0-litre flat-six engines producing 370bhp in the standard car and 420bhp in the S models. Globally the car is offered with a seven-speed manual or a seven-speed PDK which is what we will get in India.
This significant jump in the sportier models has been achieved through revisions to the way the turbo operates.  Visually, this being a Porsche, there some minor revisions to the grille as well as in the rear to accommodate for the turbos.
Both these cars will be offered in the hardtop as well as convertible options which the company has termed cabriolet.

Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S
This is the latest iteration of the Porsche’s forced induction models. These are the most powerful of the lot barring the track specific GT versions. They are offered with a 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat 6 that produces 540bhp in the standard models and 580bhp in the S variants. The Turbo has a 0-100kmph time of three seconds while its more powerful S sibling can do the same sprint in 2.9 seconds.
Like the Carrera and Carrera S, these two cars too have got exterior and interior upgrades. Externally, the changes include the new four dot LED running lamps, door handles, alloy wheels and a completely new design for the entire tail sections that now includes the light bar that runs the length of the boot.
The cabin has got a new steering wheel, infotainment system with bigger display and a Bose audio system as standard for the range. Porsche has now made its PSM programme standard and has included a button on the steering wheel for the same.

    Some trivia
The Porsche 911 range completed its 50th birthday in 2013 and is one of the brands globally to be continuously on sale for a significant period. While the moniker began with two models in 1963, it today offers over 15 different models across various engine capacities to appeal to a wide fan base.
