Porsche 911 Carrera T is the lightest 911 but with more features

Porsche has kept the promise of introducing purists' 911 with the reveal of the 911 T. The T in the name stands for Touring and is the third introduction in the same vein of the ‘pure’ 911 after the 911 R and the 911 GT3 Touring. It also pays homage to the original 911 T of 1968 that introduced the back-to-basics approach. 

The 911 T is the lightest car in the current 911 range thanks to the stripped interior. It tips the scale at a mere 1425kilograms. There are only two seats in the Carrera T, but you get rear-wheel steering as optional which is not available for the standard 911 Carrera. Transmission is a manual with a shorter constant transaxle ratio and there is a standard mechanical rear differential lock as well.

The 911 Carrera T is also equipped with several performance-enhancing features that are not available on the standard 911 Carrera. This includes the PASM Sport Suspension with a 10 mm lower ride height, a shortened gear lever with an embossed shift pattern, and Sport-Tex material seat. The rear windshield and rear side windows are made of lightweight glass, and there are door opener loops instead of conventional door openers. Similar to the 911 GTS models, the sound insulation has also been reduced.

Porsche has fitted the 911 T with a front spoiler lip that comes with the PASM Sport Suspension. The car rides on a set of 20-inch wheels from Carrera S. The car can be had in five standard and three metallic paint finish. On the inside, you get four-way electric seats but there is an option of full bucket seats as well (first time on a 911 Carrera model). 

Powering the 911 T is the same twin-turbo 3.0 flat-six engine which produces 370bhp. The torque is rated at 450Nm from as low as 1,750rpm to 5,000rpm. The lightest 911 can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 4.3seconds, which is 0.1seconds quicker than the standard 911 Carrera. Top speed is 292.13kmph. With the PDK automatic transmission, the T is even quicker taking just four seconds to hit the ton but is a tad slower in the top speed. 

The 2018 911 Carrera T is now available to order and is expected to hit the roads by March 2018. The prices for the T starts at $102,100 (Rs 66.8 lakhs)
