Close to a year after its unveiling at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the new Porsche 911 Carrera will make it to the Indian market on June 29. The carmaker will announce the model-wise pricing then.
The biggest change to the sports car comes in the form of a new 3.0-litre turbocharged flat-six mill and is a first for the 911 Carrera lineup. This one is more powerful than the current model by 20bhp and 60Nm of torque. The power hike has put the entry-level Carrera's power output in the 370bhp, 450Nm territory and 420bhp, 500Nm for the Carrera S. Transmission options include the 7-speed manual or the brand's 7-speed PDK automated manual gearbox. Power is sent to the rear wheels.
In terms of cosmetic changes, the 911 Carrera features signature round headlamps, but get unique four-point DRLs. The size of the front air intakes has increased and the inset door handles come without recess covers. At the back, vertical louvres for the engine cover, revised tail lamps, new vents on the rear bumper and dual exhaust tips can be seen.
Porsche has brought in changes to the interior as well. The most prominent one is the new seven-inch touch screen system, which gets multi-touch and handwriting inputs. It supports Android and Apple smartphones through Bluetooth or Wi-Fi as well. The system also features a new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and online navigation. The latter comes integrated with Google Earth and Google Streetview. There is a switch in the cabin to be able to lower the height of the car by 10mm through the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), which is offered as standard.
By the end of this month we expect to get the prices for the 911 Carrera, 911 Carrera S, 911 Carrera Cabriolet and the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. Since all these models will be CBU units, we can expect prices to start from Rs 1.4 crore to Rs 2.5 crore.
