While one could easily dismiss these shots assuming it to be a regular Porsche 718 Boxster with a low-slung canvas top, a closer inspection of the prototype reveals that we are actually looking at the reincarnation of the Boxster Spyder.
For starters, it has what appears to be a pair of flying buttresses on the modified engine bay, just like the previous Boxster Spyder. And, of course, the tent-like canvas top that will be embellished on the production model.
So, Porsche is indeed working on a 981-gen Spyder, and it will follow the same formula as its predecessor being the lightest model in the range. In quest of lightness, this new model will not only eliminate the soft-top's operating mechanism, but also get rid of a number of equipment features like the AC and electric roof. The car is also expected to use aluminium panels.Â
