Polestar, Volvo’s performance subsidiary, will come out of the shadows tomorrow with its first car ever. Built from ground up, Polestar’s first car will be a coupe, engineered for speed.
Over the years, Polestar has grown from a garage tuner to a full-fledged Volvo subsidiary, breathing life into the otherwise dull Volvos of the past. Now that Volvo has decided to run ahead of curve, the Swedish car maker made sure that Polestar carves out its own identity.
From the teaser video that Polestar has issued, we can say that it is a coupe. Since it has the entire Volvo arsenal at its disposal, we think the No.1 Polestar might be built on the SPA platform. Another reason to believe it is that the SPA platform is hybrid-friendly and the all-new Polestar is getting a hybrid mill.
Powering the Polestar coupe will a derivative of the 2.0-litre hybrid mill that we get here in the XC90 T8. With the horsepower nearing 500 and power being sent to all wheels, expect the Polestar to rock the 100kmph mark from standstill within four seconds.
In terms of looks, you will certainly have the Thor’s hammer headlamps and vertically slatted grille. It will be a Volvo in its essence but will blow its occupants with performance. Stay tuned as we bring to you the latest news about the all-new Polestar from Shanghai.
