-The second product from the newly established Polestar brand.
-Targeted at the Tesla Model 3.
-Based on CMA platform and is powered by two electric motors with a 78kWh battery pack.
Polestar – the newly formed electric brand from Volvo – has taken the wraps off the all-new 2 electric fastback ahead of its Geneva debut. The 2, as the name suggests, is the second product from the Geely-owned Swedish brand after the 1 performance coupe.
According to the carmaker, the Polestar 2 is the first electric car to compete in the marketplace against the Tesla Model 3.
Appearance wise, the 2 borrows most of its design elements from the gorgeous yet understated looking 1. But the slightly crossover-like stance and a raked D-pillar make it appear quirky. It is based on the same CMA (compact modular architecture) platform which underpins many cars under the Geely umbrella including the Lynk&Co 01 and Volvo XC40.
The five-door fastback is powered by two electric motors. The juice to the motor is supplied by a 78 kWh battery pack, enabling a targeted range of 500 kilometres. The 27-module battery pack is integrated into the floor and contributes to the rigidity of the chassis as well as improves the car’s noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels. Polestar claims that the road noise has been reduced by 3.7 dB compared to a traditional chassis. Power sent to two motors means that the 2 has an all-wheel-drive electric powertrain with a combined power output of 300 kW (408bhp) and 660 Nm. The 0-100 kmph acceleration time is slated to be 'under 5 seconds'.
The optional Performance Pack adds Ohlins dampers, Brembo brakes and unique 20-inch forged wheels to the 2’s package. Polestar’s signature gold seat belts, brake callipers and valve caps are also present.
The Polestar 2 is one of the first cars in the world to embed an infotainment system powered by Android. All the Google services are offered via an 11-inch touchscreen which dominates the 2’s cabin. Apart from that, all the new-age connectivity features are available with the new infotainment system.
Similar to the 1, the 2 can be ordered online only for a price of 39,999 euros (59,999 Euros for the limited First Edition). Production will commence in early 2020 in China for global markets. Following its showcase in Geneva, the 2 will go on a roadshow across countries like China, the United States, Canada, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK.
