Indian auto giant Mahindra had acquired the Italian car design firm and coachbuilder from Cambiano sometime late last year. Fresh reports have emerged indicating that Pininfarina is working on developing an electric car which will debut sometime later.
Back at the Geneva Motor Show, Pininfarina had showcased the H2 Speed, hydrogen sports car concept that gathered a lot of attention. Mahindra and Mahindra’s involvement in the Formula E hints on a possibility of an electric sports car to follow by using its technology with the famed Pininfarina design.
Speaking about Pininfarina’s importance, Pravin Shah, President and Chief Executive, Automotive Division Mahindra and Mahindra Limited, said, “Design plays a critical part in designing vehicles in such a way that they are robust yet pollute the least while giving you the thrill that people want in vehicles.” The acquisition will help the Indian automaker strengthen its presence in the Formula E.
Mahindra believes that Pininfarina will showcase its ability with a wide range of powertrains and the H2 Speed concept comes forth as a perfect example of Pininfarina’s wide-range approach. With the new collaboration, Mahindra will hold a unique business proposition in the automotive and racing segment, while also changing the design perceptions. Along with stronger presence in the racing circuit, the Indian automaker will also strengthen its position in the automotive segment.
