Having launched the Figo Aspire compact sedan a month ago, Ford India has now introduced the Figo hatchback in the Indian market. With prices ranging between Rs 4.29 lakh and Rs 7.40 lakh, the all-new Figo competes with a range of other hatchbacks including the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Nissan Micra and the Hyundai Grand i10.
Design wise, the new Figo looks thoroughly modern thanks to its Aston Martin-like trapezoidal grille, elongated headlamps and a well-proportioned tailgate.
There’s also an accentuated character line running through to the tail lamp cluster to enhance the overall width.
The eight-spoke alloy wheels look a bit bland compared to the rest of the car’s energetic design. Top-spec versions come with 175-section 14-inch Apollo tyres.
Putting safety on priority, Ford is offering the driver’s side airbag as standard across the entire range. From the second variant onwards, the Figo gets dual front airbags across the range.
Like the Figo Aspire compact sedan, the top-spec version offers up to six airbags, making it the only hatchback in its class to offer as many airbags.
The car gets Ford’s SYNC in-car connectivity system that allows drivers to control their phone, entertainment and apps, hands-free, using voice commands
The new Figo has a class-leading wheelbase of 2,491mm, making it ideal for typical Indian families. Ford is also claiming a rather impressive ground clearance of 174mm.
There are two engines on offer: an 88bhp 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine and a 100bhp 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine. The latter has a claimed fuel economy of 25.83kmpl.
For those looking for the convenience of an automatic gearbox, Ford is offering a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox with the 112bhp 1.5-litre TiVCT petrol engine.
The new Figo hatchback is available in up to 13 variants and 7 colour options. The car is now on sale across all Ford dealerships in India.
