Alfa Romeo has managed to attract quite a crowd at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show, mainly thanks to the unveiling of the all-new Giulia premium sedan. This BMW 3 Series-rivalling model is set to go on sale next year in global markets.
The Giulia boasts of quintessential Italian styling which carries influences of the original Giulietta Sprint of the 1950s. It gets an aggressive fascia along with the rounded angles for the rear section, creating a 'teardrop-shaped' profile.
Alfa Romeo has made extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminium to keep the weight at bay. The most powerful version houses a Ferrari-derived 3-litre V6 engine under the bonnet. This specially built unit makes 503bhp of power.
Developed in association with Ferrari, this 3-litre twin-turbo powertrain sends power to the rear wheels and can propel the hot version of the Giulia from 0-100kmph in just 3.9 seconds. The acceleration figure is pretty much incredible considering this Alfa essentially is a four-door family sedan.
As for gearbox options, Alfa Romeo will be offering an automatic as well as a 6-speed manual gearbox options. Unlike the old front-wheel drive 159, the new Giulia will be available with either rear or four-wheel drive.
The new Alfa Romeo Giulia will be one of the first production models to adorn the Italian marque’s new badge. Besides the 503bhp V6 engine, the Giulia will also be available with a host of four-cylinder engines.
When launched globally next year, the new Giulia will take on BMW’s 3 Series, Jaguar XE and Audi’s A4.
