A new Volkswagen Polo was unveiled today and sports a revised design and feature list. It has been covered extensively and you can read about it here or enjoy its details in our photo gallery. However, that’s not the point of this story as here we want to talk about something a bit more exciting, which is the Polo GTI. A high performance turbocharged go-kart, the GTI has been ´all about that pace’ and now there is a new one! This time around it has been fitted with four doors and aims to continue the Wolfsburg based automaker’s run of fun to drive cars. This new GTI was unveiled alongside the standard Polo and packs a 200bhp punch. To give you an idea of what is what, here is a photo gallery of the GTI.
The exterior of Polo GTI takes its cues from its elder sibling, the Golf GTI though its own identity is evident. The four-door hatch hosts design like sporty lines and sharp creases all over.
The front end gets a sleek grille with no chrome treatment what so ever. Instead it gets the iconic red accentuated grille which makes its way into the head lamps for the extra sporty touch.
The side profile tells us that the new vehicle is now longer and has breached the four metre mark. This translates into a roomier cabin for the passengers. The wider Polo now sits on larger wheels with designer alloys.
The rear end of the vehicle is styled subtle although it carries some sporty inputs such as a chrome tip exhaust, black finished spoiler and a subtle GTI badge on the rear.
Inside the cabin is a revamped cockpit with sporty details to remind the driver of the capabilities of the car. A flat bottom steering wheel is standard across all the range but the Polo GTI gets it wrapped in red stitching.
In addition to the active information display the dashboard now houses an eight inch touch infotainment system. The centre air conditioning ducts are smartly placed lower to the infotainment system.
Powering the Polo GTI is a 1.8-litre turbo charged petrol engine producing 187bhp. The hot hatch gets a dual clutch seven speed gearbox as standard.
