Taking an opportunity to showcase how it plans to conquer the 2017 Dakar Rally, Peugeot has unveiled its 3008 DKR race car. Based on their new 3008 crossover, this is a rough and tough vehicle designed to take on the 9200km gruelling course across South America.
It gets the 3008 moniker and the Peugeot badge but other than that shares very little with the road going version. Exuding a trophy truck feel, the entire chassis is purpose built and contains all the latest developments from the French automaker’s racing division. This includes double wishbone front and rear suspension as well dual dampers per wheel.
While the standard car makes use of a 2.0-litre oil burner, this rally car gets a 3.0-litre V6 diesel that sends 340bhp and a massive 800Nm of torque to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential. What is interesting is that this car will do 200kmph just about anywhere it goes. The 3008 DKR will make its debut next month at the rally of Morocco with drivers Carlos Sainz and Lucas Cruz at the wheel.
