Earlier this year, there were two major developments from Peugeot - its India debut plan with CK Birla group and recently, the acquisition of the legendary Ambassador now. Now, the company’s 208 hatchback has been spied testing on the Indian roads.
While a few reports say that the spied hatchback could be a private import, the covered logo is a dead giveaway that it’s a company test mule. Most of the manufacturers like to camouflage their cars or its logo and sometimes both, while testing the cars. The spied Peugeot 208 carried the PureTech badge that confirms the presence of a three-cylinder engine under the hood. With the help of this mule, the company could be data logging and working outtesting the wrinkles in performance out few things of thise cars.
Peugeot is likely to begin its India operations in India with three cars. The 208 hatchback that will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai i20, the second is the 308 sedan, which will go up against the Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. The third car could either be the 2008 or the 3008 that will serve the hot compact SUV segment. The company mightcould position itself as a premium brand and that’s why it won’t go below the premium hatchback segment.
