Back in mid-2017 an undisguised test mule image of the Peugeot 208 was spotted on-test in India. This time around, fresh images of three 208 hatchbacks have emerged which are registered with the Pune RTO. The vehicles might have arrived in India for homologation and testing, ahead of its anticipated start of India-operations by 2020. PSA, the parent company of Peugeot, has signed a joint venture agreement with the CK Birla Group to make as well as sell vehicles and components in India by 2020.
Based on what can be seen, the Peugeot 208 gets a sweptback headlamp cluster with projector lamps. The vehicle gets a black grille with chrome and round fog lamps. Chrome inserts can be seen on the front bumper as well. The sides get a nice flowing design with larger front windows, blackened B-pillar, ORVMs with integrated turn signal lights, alloy wheels and a slightly sloping roofline. As for the interior, the hatchback gets a multi-functional three-spoke steering wheel with silver inserts. A touch of chrome can also be noticed around the AC side vents and inside door handles. The vehicle is expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system along with dual front airbags as standard at the time of launch.
Although the company is yet to reveal the technical specs for the Indian market, we believe the vehicle might be offered in petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant of the Peugeot 208 is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre three cylinder engine that generates 80bhp. The diesel version on the other hand is expected to be powered by a 1.4-litre engine. More details about the vehicle will be known over the next few months.
