The French manufacturer Peugeot has been seen testing their 208 hatchback in India. The vehicle was spotted with no camouflage, thus revealing that this is the second generation of the 208 hatchback, which was globally launched in 2011.
The second generation 208 hosts a restyled side profile with different shoulder and waist lines. The rear end houses a redesigned tail lamp assembly and a restyled bumper. The hatch was also seen with a new set of seven spoke alloy wheels.
The test mule of the 208 that we saw was a five-door hatchback. However, the international markets might see a three-door variant on offer as well.
The second generation Peugeot 208 is likely to be powered by the same engine options as its predecessor - 1.2-litre Petrol and a 1.6-litre Diesel. The petrol engine is tuned to offer power ranging from 68bhp to 110bhp, varying on the trim level. The diesel engine is offered with a different state of tune as well, 79bhp in the lowest trim and 165bhp for the top of the line - ‘GT Line’ trim.
The second generation 208 is expected to go on sale early next year globally, and after its launch, the new hatchback will pose stiff competition to the recently launched Volkswagen Polo, Mazda 3 hatchback, Citroen C4 and Nissan Note.
All this recent activity from the manufacturer suggests that Peugeot could be making an entry again in the Indian market soon. Rumours have it that the French automaker will arrive with a B segment hatchback, a compact sedan and a compact SUV.
