The government has hiked the price of petrol by 35 paise in New Delhi with effect from Tuesday in a bid to firm up the cost of raw materials. It will now cost Rs 67.56 a litre from midnight of January 16 onwards.
However, the prices of petrol, which was deregulated in 2011, will vary from city to city due to local sales tax and vat rates. This is the first time that petrol prices have raised in the last three months. It was slashed in October by 56 paise and then in November by 95 paise.
