The Suzuki Jimny first took the Japanese market by a storm. And it has now entered the European continent with its debut at the Paris Auto Show. The much-awaited all-new Suzuki Jimny had arrived this year and seems to have garnered global fan-following since then.
While the entire car is the same in Europe as that of the Japanese market, the Euro-spec Jimny gets a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that develops 101bhp of power and comes mated to a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic gearbox. In spite of being a rather compact SUV, it gets all-wheel drive with a manual shift lever to maintain its legacy of being a capable off-roader. Also, it will not get a diesel engine.
With an angle of approach of 37 degrees and departure angle of 49 degrees and a ground clearance of 210mm, the Jimny has the genes of a capable off-roader. But at the same time, it isn’t as Spartan as the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, we have been having here in India for ages. Premium trims, upholstery and comfort features should make it apt for civilian use as well.
We hope Suzuki offers the Jimny in India as well, especially with the relaxation of import norms for low-volume cars.
