The stunning new Pagani Huayra Roadster has made its first appearance before making a public debut at Geneva. The Roadster not only loses the glorious Gullwing doors but also gives away 80kg as compared to the hardtop Huayra. Yes, the Pagani Huayra Roadster weighs less than the Huayra Coupe.
Work began on the Huayra Roadster back in 2010. But instead of taking a simple route of removing the top and adding conventional doors, like in the Zonda Roadster, the carmaker scrapped the design in 2013 and initiated the design process from scratch. Consequently, making the Huayra Roadster a wholly new project. No wonder Horacio Pagani asserts, “This (the Roadster) is the most complicated project we have ever undertaken".
The engineers at Pagani developed a new carbonfibre-titanium composite for the chassis, allowing 52 per cent increase in stiffness and a dry weight of just 1,280kg. Making use of the expertise from the hardcore Huayra BC, the Roadster uses all the Active Aero system the exotic carmaker has on offer. The Roadster comes fitted with two types of roof. One is a carbon hardtop with a central glass element which assumes the look of a coupe. The second type of roof is a fabric and carbon cover which can be stored inside the Roadster. According to the Italian carmaker, both the removable roofs are simple and quick to install. On the inside, the exotic beige leather is accentuated with carbon-fibre treatment all around, and contrast blue stitching. The drool-worthy interior comes with an exposed aluminium gear lever as well.
Power comes from the twin-turbo 6.0-litre Mercedes-AMG V12 producing 754bhp and a whopping 1000Nm of torque. All the madness is channelled through a transverse-mounted seven-speed AMT transmission sourced from the Huayra BC. Braking responsibilities are taken care by a 380mm and a 6-piston calliper in the front and 4-piston calliper at the rear developed by Brembo. Pirelli’s PZero Corsa tyres were co-developed with Horacio Pagani and are wrapped around 21-inch wheels in the rear and 20-inch upfront.
The Huayra Roadster will be limited to 100 exclusive examples, each costing an exorbitant €2.28 million (approx. Rs 16.13 crore). We could see the Pagani Huayra Roadster in all its glory at the Geneva stage in March.
