As we turn the pages to a new year we cannot help but flip it to the other side and take count of the year gone by. The automotive industry in India has witnessed over 50 car launches this month and that nearly brings it down to approximately 4 or more cars a month. The rise in the number of cars was seen across segments and this showed how car manufacturers managed to reach out to their target audience. With a lot of research and thought put into their products car manufacturers are now getting to adjust to the pulse of the Indian people.
The segment that got most of the attention though was the hatchback. With almost all the car manufacturers pitching in; Chevrolet with the Beat, Volkswagen Polo, Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, the all-new Wagon R, Skoda Fabia facelift, A-Star automatic, Fiat Punto 90 hp, the Nissan Micra, Tata Indica Vista Drivetech 4, the only thing one can deduce by this is the fact that the vehicles are targeted at the Indian middle class.
The year also saw India’s first crossover the Tata Aria, Toyota’s game changer sedan; the Etios and luxury cars like the Skoda Superb, the Prius, the Mercedes E-Coupe and many more. Even off-roading enthusiasts had something to look forward to in 2010, with a host of SUV’s making their way to India. The Ford bringing in the 4x2 Endeavour, Skoda with the Yeti, Tata Aria, Hyundai Santa Fe and finally the Mahindra Thar.
It is really amazing to see the steady and yet inevitable growth of the automotive Industry in India and we can only imagine what the next year has in store. With a cavalcade of launches ready to hit the market, car manufacturers are all geared up to bring in the new year with a bang!
