What you see in the picture is the Opel Insignia station wagon with the sports ‘GSi’ treatment. What’s interesting is that Opel just unveiled the Insignia GSi hatchback a couple of days ago, and there was no hint about a sports tourer being in the pipeline. Its true GSi identity was given away due to it being completely undisguised and its similarity with the recently unveiled car.
So the Insignia station wagon prototype can be seen here with the same eye catching red paint job, and those black Brembo brake calipers which could eventually be switched to red ones like those on the GSi hatchback. Thanks to the extra length of this version, expect the station wagon model to accommodate an additional 50 litres of boot space.
It goes without saying that this version will also be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged motor that produces a rather sprightly 260bhp and 400Nm of torque. Now, going by the manner in which the test car was not concealed, we expect the Insignia GSi station wagon to also be showcased beside the Insignia GSi hatch at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017.
