Volkswagen has officially confirmed that the new sub-four metre sedan will be called the Ameo. The Polo-based model is less than four metres in length and will rival the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and others in the compact sedan segment.
Ameo is derived from the Latin word ‘Amo’, meaning ‘I love’, Volkswagen say that the Ameo is an offering that combines the brand values of best-in-class safety features, build quality and a great driving experience. The Volkswagen Ameo has also been designed specifically for the Indian market, and will be manufactured at the company’s Chakan facility.
The Polo-based sedan or the Ameo is Volkswagen's attempt at making a sub-four-metre sedan to avail the tax benefits the government provides. The car will be a Polo with an added boot and the slightly reconstructed front-end. Volkswagen have also revealed their redesigned taillight along with the Ameo badging. The engine and gearbox options will be identical to those on offer on the Polo.
Volkswagen will unveil the Ameo at the Auto Expo in February and it will be on display at the Volkswagen Pavilion, during the press and public days of exposition.
