The crossover war will be reignited this month as Nissan has officially announced the unveiling of the Terrano compact SUV at a function in Mumbai on August 20. We first got word of the Japanese automaker’s Duster based SUV two months ago when they issued a release announcing the name of the vehicle as well as released two sketches of the upcoming car.
Just a short while later, the vehicle was spotted testing outside Chennai and that gave us an idea of what the car’s overall design will be like. The Renault Duster based Nissan Terrano shares many of its design cues with its Romanian-French sibling but features a different grille, headlight design, tail light configuration. It will share the underpinnings and engine line up with the Duster.
However the changes here will most likely be that the Terrano will only be offered with diesel engines and most likely four-wheel drive option. The latter is expected to be a sought after option among buyers and should not add too much to the cost of the vehicle as the Renault-Nissan alliance already builds RHD Dacia Dusters for the UK market.
It is likley that Nissan will launch the car in October closer to the festive season in a bid to cash on the increased spending power among the consumers. However, the EcoSport has already its effect on the Duster which has lost close to 3000 units over the last few months and so we can expect an earlier launch from the Renault-Nissan alliance to prop up its numbers.
