Skoda has officially announced that its new small SUV will be called the Karoq and it will be officially unveiled to the public in Stockholm, Sweden on 18 May 2017. A portmanteau derived from the language of the Alaskan people, the name combines two words - Kaa Raq (car) and Ruq (arrow). This is the second vehicle in the Skoda stable to pick up its name from the Alaskan region.
From our India exclusive spy pictures, you can see that the Karoq has picked up most of its design elements from the larger Kodiaq and will be a crossover that will be positioned under the former. Noticeable design elements include the moustache Skoda grille, angular headlamps, forward leaning stance and arrow-head shaped tail lamps which sport a C-shaped pattern within for the light guides.
Commenting on the announcement of the new Karoq moniker for this SUV, Werner Eichhorn, board member for sales and marketing said, “It is important to us to give our new SUV a powerful name. It also forms part of a naming approach across our SUV models. At the same time, we are creating exceptional and memorable brand recognition value for our customers.”
