The facelifted BMW 5 Series will be launched for the Indian market on October 10. It was unveiled for the global markets on May 19 and features mostly cosmetic changes both inside and outside. BMW has also added a diesel base variant for the 5 Series globally. This the third facelifted model for 2013 from the German automaker after X1 in February, 7 Series in April and the 1 Series last month.
The facelifted 5 Series gets revised headlamps, new bumpers and of course a new grille which is now in line with the German automaker’s other models. The rear end is the same as the previous model but with some changes to the taillights, exhaust pipes and a revised rear bumper.
The German automaker is also offering revised design for the alloy wheels as well as mirror mounted indicators. The interiors get new options for the upholstery, trims as well as two new special packages called the modern line package and luxury line package in addition to the M line packages.
In addition to the three petrol and three diesel variants already available in India, we expect that BMW will also offer a new four-cylinder diesel mill variant called the 518d. The engine produces 144PS. The top-of-the-line variants across all body styles now get a new V8 mill that produces 450PS and has been coupled with the German automakers ActiveHybrid 5 technology.
We expect that BMW will price the facelifted car with a starting in the region of Rs 40 lakh to Rs 42 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes in the Indian market with the Audi A6 and the Mercedes-Benz E –Class. We will bring you all the details from the launch in Delhi as they happen, so stay tuned to CarWale.
