Ashok Leyland has announced that it will launch the Stile MPV for the Indian market on October 8. It was unveiled by the Indian commercial vehicle maker on July 16 and is based on the Nissan Evalia MPV.
The Stile has a similar overall design but features a revised front facia to differentiate it from the Evalia. It also gets a monocoque construction and all-black interiors in a bid to reduce costs.
The Stile will be powered by the same 1.5-litre K9K diesel engine from Renault-Nissan alliance that powers the Evalia. It develops 85bhp and 200Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via five-speed manual gearbox. The Stile will also be available in CNG version, currently unavailable in the Nissan Evalia, and will come with a choice of two and three row seating options. However, there are currently no details on what the petrol engine powering the Stile CNG variant will be though.
Ashok Leyland is likely to price the Stile in the range of Rs five lakh to Rs eight lakhs, making it a cheaper offering than the Evalia which means it will compete with the Chevrolet Enjoy and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. When they are launched, the Datsun Go+ and the Honda Mobilio will also be competitors.
