Nissan made a bold move when it introduced the first-generation Murano back in the year 2003. Being one of the very first crossovers in the market during the time, the Murano was mainly known for its eccentric looks and a decent load of features. The second-generation model introduced in 2009 maintained a similar approach even as Nissan added new models like the Juke and the Rogue to its crossover range.
Now for 2014, Nissan has introduced us all to the all-new, third-generation Murano which takes its design inspiration from the Resonance concept shown first at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show in January last year.
Like the original, the third-gen model is rather controversial in the way it looks. Although not really pretty, the new Murano is quite distinctive and striking to look at. Inside, the cabin boasts of a modern design and is filled with premium features. There’s a 7-inch colour display, premium 11 speaker audio system from Bose, GPS navigation, climate control, heating and cooling seats, push-button start, electrically powered wing mirrors and much more.
The new Murano will be powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine rated at 260 horsepower and 325Nm of torque. The V6 is mated to the brand’s Xtronic transmission tuned for impressive response and smoothness. Nissan says it has managed to improve the fuel economy of this new model by nearly 20 per cent over the current generation Murano, due to around 60kg of weight reduction and enhanced aerodynamics.
The new Nissan Murano will be offered in four trim levels when it goes on sale in later this year: S, SV, SL and Platinum.
