Nissan has unveiled the Extrem crossover concept at the Sao Paulo Motor Show. Created by a team from Nissan Design America, the compact crossover has the same underpinngs of the Micra hatchback which has been derived from the Nissan V platform.
The crossover is a sub-four metre vehicle and has been designed as a 2+2 seater and is powered by a turbo petrol engine. Nissan has borrowed many styling cues for this radical crossover from the Juke and the 370Z and eventually much of the design is expected to find its way into future models after substantial tone down of course.
The concept crossover, which has been painted in a custom made colour called Solar Cortex, has been fitted with 19-inch wheels, contrasting matte finish roof, floating roof rails and vertical day time running lights. Nissan has confirmed that this is purely a concept and is not expected to go into production anytime soon. However, they say that if built, the Extrem will be powered by a 1.6-litre engine in all wheel and front wheel drive configurations.
The compact crossover, if introduced, will be a game changer for Nissan in the emerging markets like India, Brazil and China where the demand for such vehicles is very high. Cost wise too it would make sense as the crossover is based on the Micra which are already being produced locally.
