The carmaker is all set to launch the facelifted car at an event tomorrow in Mumbai. The 2014 version of the Nissan Sunny is more modern and contemporary than its predecessor with cosmetic changes similar to the visual updates on the facelifted Nissan Micra.
The new boomerang-shaped headlights and revised grille on the Sunny facelift add to the new look, while the chrome embellishments on the front lip of the bumper and below the round fog lamp inserts get a lot of bling to the fascia. There are no changes to the side profile of the car but the vehicle gets a raised rear which makes the car look sporty. The rear bootlid has been reworked and now features a stoplight for safety.
There are changes inside the car which includes new colour scheme with dashboard painted in gloss black and the interiors in beige. The top-end variant gets a touch screen infotainment system. Talking about the safety features, top-spec variant has front and side airbags, while ABS and EBD are standard on all variants.
The new Sunny will be powered by the same set of engines that the present Sunny is powered with. This means a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 98bhp of power and 134Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre diesel mill that churns out 85bhp of power and 200Nm of torque will be carried over to the latest vehicle. Both engines will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox while the petrol variant will also be offered with a CVT gearbox.
The Sunny sedan was launched in India in 2011 and was neither considered as a serious contender in the C segment nor did it do well in terms of sales. Now as a revision to the product life cycle of the car, Nissan has added a bit of flair to the facelifted version. It will take on its other competitors like the Fiat Linea, Ford Fiesta and Skoda Rapid from the C segment in the Indian car market.
