Nissan will soon be launching an automatic version of the Sunny Sedan. It is basically the Scala Automatic (which itself is the Sunny with different badges) with the Nissan badges. According to reports, the automatic gearbox will only be offered with the XL petrol variant and is expected to cost Rs 80, 000 more than the manual XL variant.
This variant will be powered by a four-cylinder 1.5-litre mill producing 99bhp and 134Nm of torque. The transmission is Nissan’s X-Tronic CVT. The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) offers seamless shifts, unlike the conventional torque-convertor boxes. The transmission has unlimited gear-rations, offering better economy – in fact the ARAI efficiency figures of the Renault Scala AT petrol are better than those of the manual transmission and we expect the same for the Sunny Automatic versus its manual sibling.
In terms of changes to the car, like the Scala automatic, Nissan has made minimum changes to the vehicle both on the inside and the outside. Reports say, the exterior changes have been limited to badges while the interiors get a revised instrument cluster in view of the automatic transmission.
The Sunny Automatic will compete with cars like the Honda City automatic, Ford Fiesta, Skoda Rapid, VW Vento and its very own French twin the Scala AT. We expect that Nissan will launch the car within the next few weeks. It may also offer some of the features that we saw on the special edition Sunny as optional extras to give the car a premium appeal.
