Nissan has launched the Terrano SUV in the Indian market for Rs 9.58 lakh (ex-showroom Chennai). The Terrano was officially unveiled for the Indian market on August 20 and is based on the Renault Duster. It is Rs 30, 000 to Rs 50, 000 more expensive than the equivalent variant of the Duster.
The Terrano is available in one petrol and six diesel variants – the petrol is a 1.6-litre mill that produces 102bhp and 145Nm of torque, while the diesel is a 1.5-litre mill that is available in two states of tune 84bhp/200Nm and 110bhp/248Nm. The petrol and the 84bhp diesel engine are mated to a five-speed manual, while the 110bhp variants get a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Terrano shares a common overall design with the Renault Duster but gets a new fascia in the form of a revised grille complete with the round Nissan logo. While the Duster’s flared wheel arches gave it a rounded and soft look, the Nissan Terrano has more angular look to it. The rear end of the Terrano gets a revised tail lamp cluster but once again retains the same overall design.
The Nissan Terrano cabin looks very similar to the Duster but gets a new user friendly music system and a revised design for the central AC vents. Apart from the diesel XE base variant, ABS-EBD and Brake Assist, along with driver-side airbag are standard across all variants. The top spec XV Premium gets one more airbag along with features like rear parking sensors, leather seats, wooden inserts for door trims, leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob.
The Nissan Terrano competes with the Renault Duster, Tata Safari Storme and the Mahindra XUV500. Given that the Duster has been a strong seller for the French automaker, we expect that the Nissan Terrano will do the same for the Japanese automaker. We have already driven the new compact crossover and here are the links to our first drive report and the video review.
