With rising traffic and congestion on our roads, the automatic transmissions are the need of the hour. Many manufacturers are realising this fact as they are bound to introduce the automatic variants across all segments. The most recent to join the trend is the Nissan who has launched an AMT variant for its Terrano crossover.
Prices for the automatic Terrano starts at Rs 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi); which is Rs 60,000 more than the equivalent manual model and is offered only in the top-of-the-line XVD variant.
The Terrano was launched a year after the Renault Duster. It is offered with a 102bhp 1.6-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine available in two states of tune – 84bhp and 108bhp. The automatic option will only be available with 110PS diesel engine. The car is offered with a new body paint – sandstone brown along with the regular bronze grey, pearl white, blade silver, sapphire black, sterling grey, and fire red.
Given that this car is only available as a top-of-the-line variant there is a lot of kit being offered as standard on the Terrano AMT. This list includes 16-inch alloy wheels, electrically adjustable and retractable ORVM, reverse parking sensors, roof rails, fog lamps, silver highlighted sills, and chrome finished exhaust tips. On the safety front you get ESP, dual airbags, ABS and EBD, central locking, hill start assist and engine immobiliser.
On the inside, the dashboard continues the two tone setup but now trimmed out in a combination of beige and black. There is a revised instrument cluster and AMT gear-lever previously seen in the Duster. The upholstery is a beige leather affair with a glossy piano black finish on the centre console. The rear seats get armrest with integrated cup holders, central seat belt point, reading lamps on each side and a 12V power socket. There is an integrated two-din audio system with Bluetooth, USB and aux-in connectivity with four speakers.
When compared to the equivalent automatic variant of the French sibling, the Renault Duster 110 PS RXZ 4X2 AMT, price differs by about Rs 78,000 which is exactly the same price gap as between the top-spec manual transmission in both the cars.
With the growing demand for automatic cars these days, the Terrano fits the bill, as the competition like the Mahindra Nuvosport and TUV300, Hyundai Creta, and of course the Renault Duster.
