After it’s unveiling at the 2014 Auto Expo in February this year, Nissan has finally launched the 2014 version of the Nissan Sunny today. The revamped car is priced at Rs 6.99 lakh(ex-showroom New-Delhi) and will replace the current model. The more modern and contemporary car in comparison to the present model will soon reach dealerships.
The facelifted car gets cosmetic changes similar to the visual updates on the facelifted Nissan Micra. The vehicle features new boomerang-shaped headlights and a bigger, bolder grille. The chrome embellishments on the front lip of the bumper and below the round fog lamp inserts add a lot of bling to the fascia and give the car a fresh look. The profile remains unchanged except for mirror-mounted indicators and new wheel design. The rear also gets a new bumper and a different chrome strip above the registration plate.
The changes extend to the cabin with a new colour scheme inside. The centre console is gloss black while the interiors are beige. The company has equipped the top-end variant with a colour screen infotainment system, while on the safety front it also gets front and side airbags. ABS and EBD are standard on all variants of the refreshed Sunny.
The new Sunny will be powered by the same set of engines that the present Sunny is powered with. This means a 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 98bhp of power and 134Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre diesel mill that churns out 85bhp of power and 200Nm of torque will be carried over to the latest vehicle. Both engines will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox while the petrol variant will also be offered with a CVT gearbox as an option. The engine mapping has changed for a smoother drive and a little more fuel efficiency.
The Sunny sedan was launched in India in 2011 and was neither considered as a serious contender in the C segment nor did it do well in terms of sales. Now as a revision to the product life cycle of the car, Nissan has added a bit of flair to the outgoing version. It will take on competitors like the Fiat Linea, Ford Fiesta and Skoda Rapid from the C segment in the Indian car market.
