Nissan Note has been spotted testing in Chennai, Tamil Nadu for the first time. The Note is in its second generation now and it got the last update in 2014 internationally. Nissan might bring in the Note to India as a rival to the B-segment hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20.
The Note is a four-metre premium hatchback. This means Nissan won’t have much difficulty introducing it in the Indian market as a sub-four metre product. The Note will replace the ageing Micra as a premium B-segment offering. The B-segment premium hatchbacks are gaining a lot of popularity in the country lately. Tata and Ford are also mulling to capitalise on this with their upcoming products. Therefore Nissan doesn’t want to be left behind.
The Note test mule is wearing a temporary registration plate. It is a Medalist variant with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder 95bhp petrol engine. The Medalist is an exclusive variant with silver grille, front plated bumper lower grille, exclusive “Medalist” emblem, newly-designed optional 15-inch aluminium wheels, altered seat floor colour and weave pattern, and a special fog lamp.
The Note is also available internationally with Nissan’s e-POWER electric powertrain. It also offers Nissan’s Autonomous technology. Although, we don’t expect Nissan India to bring in these techs in the country anytime soon but it would be a different approach from the Japanese carmaker if at all they decide to bring the e-Power Note to the growing premium hatchback segment.
