Japanese automaker Nissan is set to take on the world’s best sports car brands as it has just given us all a glimpse of its 24 hour Le Mans challenger – the GT-R LM Nismo.
In what can be described as a bold move, Nissan has interpreted the sport’s technical regulations in a whole new way, producing a front-engined, front-wheel drive car. Powering the GT-R LM Nismo is a 3-litre twin turbo V6 petrol engine and a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS).
The radical racer will compete in the LM P1 class of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the highest category in world sports car racing. Starting at Silverstone, UK on April 12, the series travels around the world to Spa in Belgium, onto the Le Mans 24 Hours and Germany’s Nurburgring, before going global with races in the US, Japan, China and the Middle East.
The test programme for the GT-R LM Nismo which began in Arizona last year continues this week at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas, where the team is making the most of the warmer climate of the Southern US.
