As a part of brand building activity, Nissan India may launch its supercar the GT-R soon. The company, in the past, had no plans to bring the GT-R here; however their chief planning officer, Andy Palmer, revealed the new plans at the Sunny facelift launch.
Palmer said, “I think GT-R is an obvious car to bring as a brand halo. I don’t think it will sell enormous numbers maybe to a few cricketers I hope,’ he said in a jovial mood. Nissan had been contemplating of launching the GT-R in India for the past few years, and now feels that the market is ready for the iconic two-door sports coupe as it would help establish the Japanese car brand in the country.”
On the brand building part Palmer added, “But I think it’s good to have a ‘halo’ car in the country to show what the company is capable of doing... and I’m certainly an advocate of that.”
The Nissan GT-R sports a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine producing a chest thumping 541bhp and 628Nm of torque. All this power is transferred to all four wheels through a dual-clutch six-speed semi-automatic gearbox. The claimed 0-100 kmph sprint is dismissed in 2.7 seconds and the car will max out at well over 300kmph.
These are still early days to predict the launch date and pricing of the GT-R in India. But, we expect it to be priced above Rs 1.3 crore and maybe it will arrive later this year.
