The Nissan Micra is not a pretty looking car, to put it in a subtle way it is a design that doesn’t please everyone. Well, then how about adding a little zing to it? (read body kit and performance). Sounds good? You then have to see what Japanese aftermarket specialist Impul has done with the car.
Impul has fabricated a wide body kit for the urban car. The Impul Micra (March in Japan) was displayed at Tokyo Auto Salon this month. The hatchback gets a redesigned front bumper, rear bumpers, a large spoiler adorns the tail gate and it gets side skirts as well. Two vertical LED daytime running lights are incorporated next to the fog lamps and the their RS S-05 alloy-wheels complete the works.
The changes are limited to the bodyworks and it doesn’t get any hike in the power figures. While this was a whole-hearted effort by the Japanese tuner it is not well-rounded. In contrast, Nissan’s motorsports division Nismo was summoned to work on the hatchback and it is available in Nismo and Nismo S versions of the Micra in Japan. The Nismo S makes 116bhp and 156Nm from a 1.5-litre engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Nissan may not get the hot Micra with a Nismo S variant in India; but they can plonk in the 1.5-litre petrol engine from the Sunny in similar tune with a stiff suspension setup. This move can help them position it as a hot hatch and pit it against the Toyota Liva TRD Sportivo and the VW Polo GT TSI.
