The Nissan Micra/ March is a cute hatchback and with its rounded curves and bug-eyed looks is one of the main faces of the Japanese automaker globally. Now to celebrate Rio de Janeiro hosting the 2016 Olympics, Nissan has brought out a commemorative edition of the B-segment hatchback and will unveil it at the 2014 Sao Paulo Motor Show which is slated to begin from tomorrow.
As the headline suggests, the car gets a gold body kit, gold on the alloy wheels as well as some Au (FYI that’s the symbol for gold in the periodic table) on the wing mirrors. We have no clue about the interior but believe that it will carry similar gold inserts on the seats, dashboard as well as the door sills.
On the engine and mechanical front, this Brazil-spec March/Micra is powered by a 1.6-litre flex-fuel engine that produces 110bhp and is mated to a five-speed manual. The equipment list is similar to what we get in India but with the added safety features required to meet the Brazilian norms.
We have not even the slightest doubt that such a special edition will sell like hot cakes in countries like India and China where the colour gold and obviously the precious metal too is associated with wealth and prosperity. Nissan has managed to pull off the body kit in an aesthetically pleasing manner and this would go down well with even conservative car buyers.
Though the festival season has just passed, we would be quite glad if Nissan offered this body kit in India as it would work well to add numbers to the Micra’s kitty.
