Fresh off the launch of the Ford EcoSport, we have discovered that Nissan is likely to launch the facelifted Micra hatchback for the Indian market on July 2. CarWale spoke to a few Nissan dealers who confirmed that the car will be in the showroom next week but we (CarWale) have not got any official word from Nissan apart from a “facelifted Micra coming soon” teaser on their official Facebook page and website.
The facelifted Nissan Micra was first spotted in Thailand in March and subsequently launched there a month later. We have already driven the car and know all the changes that Nissan has made to the India model. We also know that the Japanese automaker will introduce an automatic variant as well as a low cost model, dubbed the Micra Active that will arrive a few months after the facelifted Micra.
Nissan has given the facelifted Micra a host of cosmetic changes both inside and outside. These changes have given the car a new and refreshed look despite retaining the same overall design. Under the hood, the Micra will continue to be powered by the 1.2-litre petrol that produces 75PS and 104Nm of torque and the 1.5-litre oil burner that produces 65PS and 160Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual. Nissan will now also launch an automatic version of the Micra that will be powered by 1.2-litre petrol but has been mated to the Japanese automaker’s Xtronic CVT gearbox.
The course of the battle in the hatchback segment has now been altered thanks to a shocking price that Ford has given the EcoSport. The facelifted Micra is expected fall into the same category as the EcoSport in terms of price and that means Nissan will have its pricing right if its wants sell the Micra in good numbers.
edit: The facelifted Nissan Micra has been launched Rs 4.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)
