Nissan is currently expanding its portfolio to make its presence felt in every major segment of the Indian car market. It newest entry will be the Duster based Terrano compact SUV that is slated to be unveiled on August 20. However, a report from Autocar India suggests that the Japanese automaker is now evaluating whether to bring its Qashqai crossover to the Indian market.
Named after a semi-nomadic tribe in Iran, the Qashqai is crossover that can be had as either a five or seven seater configurations. It is available with a variety of petrol and diesel engines power either the front wheels or all four wheels and with two transmission options. It has a design language similar to new Micra as well as the smaller but equally exciting Juke.
We expect that Nissan will price the Qashqai in the range of 12-20 lakh and will most likely offer all transmission and drive options once the vehicle is launched here. When launched, the Qashqai will compete with the Ssangyong Rexton, Ford Endeavour as well as the Skoda Yeti which is the smallest of the lot.
This segment was traditionally home to the big sedans up until the last year and a half. Nissan had earlier considered bringing the Sylphy sedan but is now believed to be taking this step due to the increase in demand for SUV among the Indian buyers.
