Japanese auto maker, Nissan Motors yesterday said that they are open for tie-ups to built a car that would be positioned between the ultra-low-cost car being developed with Bajaj Auto and the fourth generation Micra.
Carlos Ghosn, chief executive of the Renault-Nissan alliance told reporters, “We are planning to develop one more car that will be placed between Micra and ULC and we are open for one more partner for this.â€
This would be company's fourth partnership in India to the existing three - Bajaj, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), and Ashok Leyland.
Ghosn ruled any possibility of a tie-up with Bajaj for any other cars as he said Bajaj has their hands full on other projects.
On talks with Hinduja-owned Ashok Leyland to manufacture cars, he said, “We have started the discussion, but we haven’t reached to any conclusion so far for the proposed car manufacturing.â€
On any partnership with M&M, Ghosn said, "Neither companies are happy about the performance of Logan in the Indian market and so we would first like to re-position the Logan first." He said company doesn't have any plans to withdraw the Logan.
Nissan is also expected to bring in its SUV Murano to India as a completely built unit by 2013. Micra will hit the indian roads by July with 85% localisation and the ULC car is expected to hit the Indian roads by 2012.
