The Altima, or the Teana as we know it here, has never been very popular, thanks to its high sticker price and less brand strength compared to others in the price range like Honda and Toyota. However, Nissan is a very popular brand in markets like the USA and the Altima/Teana is one of the models that racks up the numbers for Nissan USA. It is understandable, then, that Nissan is attempting to hype the launch of the 2013 Teana as much as it can.
The 2013 sedan has undergone a major revamp, unlike the last nip-and-tuck that we saw in India. It will be powered by a four-cylinder engine, and the range topper will be the 3.5l V6 that we see in the Indian Teana as well - the rumoured turbocharged four-cylinder will not be launched. It remains to be seen if the new Teana will run the hybrid drive system developed in-hourse, as opposed to the Toyota-licensed technology it currently employs.
The big noise is about the new Advanced Drive-Assist Display, which involves the display between the dials on the instrument cluster to display all sorts of information like phone caller IDs, navigation and then some. It will also have lane departure warning, rear moving object detection and blind spot warning.
With the launch of the US redesign at the NY Auto Show, a worldwide update in design can't be too far away if current trends are followed - but we're not sure how much of that options list will make it to the Indian marketplace.
