Nissan India has announced Evalia at the new special price of Rs 7.99 lakh – that is close to Rs one lakh less than the current price. With only 900 odd cars sold in the last two quarters, the Nissan is under pressure as its rivals – the Enjoy and the Ertiga are generating about 2500 and 5000 bookings on a monthly basis. Nissan also plans to bring about design changes into the Evalia including the interiors and quality.
After the success stories of the Innova, Xylo and then the Ertiga, Nissan entered the lucrative people carrier segment with its global van, NV200, rechristened as the Evalia in India. Sadly for Nissan, the Evalia did not set the sales registers ringing. With its more van like character than the stylish design of Ertiga and Innova, the Evalia got stuck with the utility tag more than a people carrier. The fixed windows in the middle and rear and the sliding doors like a van did not help its image either.
Nissan now plans to have captain seats, sliding windows in the car while improving on the plastic quality and finish. The Evalia comes with a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is also expected that Nissan will come up with the face-lifted model by Diwali and this price offer may be a part of the strategy to clear stocks by then. We hope Nissan do away with the sliding doors to make the car look like passenger vehicle rather than a cargo van.
