Nissan tripled its sales figures by selling 230 per cent more cars in March 2014 when compared to the same period last year. Nissan managed to sell 7,019 units in the last month as opposed to 2,125 units in March 2013. The newly launched Datsun GO hatchback has contributed a great deal in helping Nissan achieving these figures.
With the financial year coming to an end, Nissan has also released the annual sale figures. For the financial year 2013, Nissan sold 38,217 units as compared to 36,975 units in FY 2012, a marginal 3.4 per cent increase of which, the Terrano SUV was the biggest contributor, making up 14,998 units, while the Micra made up 12,595 units. Datsun was the saving grace for Nissan, which helped the company show a positive growth for the annual sales.
Despite being launched less than two weeks ago, Nissan revealed that it has already sold 2,072 units of the Datsun GO hatchback. Aided by the sub-four lakh price tag, it seems that the Indian customer has taken a liking for this Micra-based entry-level hatchback. The excise duty cut announced last month and Datsun did bring some respite for Nissan, but it remains to be seen how long it will be able to carry this momentum.
