Nissan India's new president Thomas Kuehl has hinted at coming up with a new SUV for the Indian market. The plan is still in the early stage, but the carmaker plans to launch the SUV within a few years.
Thomas said that the team is constantly working on building a better image of the brand in India. While they are doing this, they will also put in efforts to build a strong portfolio for the Indian market. Electric vehicles are surely the first step, but the SUV line-up will also be refreshed soon.
Nissan Motor India wants to build products designed in India and produced by Indian engineers. These vehicles will not only be aimed at the domestic market, but global markets as well. Some SUVs might not bring in volumes, but vehicles like the Patrol, Pathfinder and Xtrail, which are suitable for India are also being reviewed.
The Nissan Kicks launch is impending, but post this, the carmaker will bring in a volume-spinning product. And, volumes won’t be possible without a new product. Thomas believes the Datsun brand is a good answer to a value for money market like India. Hence, they want to launch a new SUV under the Datsun brand in the coming years. This will be affordable and very competitive.
