Nissan introduced a limited edition model of the GT-R line-up in Europe late last year. Christened as the ‘Track Edition’, it sits in between the base GT-R (if you could call it that) and the hardcore GT-R Nismo. The JDM hero is all set to make its American debut at the 2017 New York Motor Show. Until then, here is a set of pictures of the new GTR Track Edition for the all the fanboys to drool over.
The Track Edition borrows a lot of clever tech from the big boy Nismo and shoves it into the ‘touring’ edition to serve the best of both worlds. The Japanese manufacturer’s now signature ‘V-motion’ grille is enhanced with a matte chrome finish and an updated mesh pattern.
Nissan has figured out a middle ground with the powerplant as well. The celebrated VR38DETT twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine puts out a healthy 561bhp and a torque of 633Nm. The hand-built ‘Takumi’ engine is mated to paddle-shifted sequential 6-speed dual clutch transmission sending power to all four wheels.
The Godzilla (as the GT-Rs are famously called) employs a Premium Midship platform, which enables the use of an independent rear transaxle ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system. This system places the transmission, transfer case and final drive at the rear of the vehicle, thus optimising weight distribution and maximising handling capability.
The chassis of the Track Edition employs a special adhesive bonding in addition to spot welding to enhance body shell rigidity and mount the NISMO-tuned suspension. The scooped hood is reinforced to enhance high-speed stability. High-performance differential oil from Nissan motorsports comes as standard.
The front fenders are scrounged from the GT-R Nismo. The 20-inch forged aluminium Nismo alloys along with a special carbon-fibre rear spoiler is a standard fitment. The four-wheel independent suspension gets a Nismo tuning with added roll stiffness along with Nismo-spec tyres and titanium exhaust.
On the inside, the Track Edition interior is wrapped in a red-black treatment with leather wrapped Recaro bucket seats as standard. An eight-inch capacitive touchscreen dominates the simplified centre console and incorporates NissanConnectSM with navigation, mobile connectivity and SiriusXM as an optional extra.
The Bose audio music system boasts of active noise cancellation and active sound enhancement technologies. Acoustic glass and targeted sound-dampening prevent the intrusion of wind and ambient traffic sounds into the GT-R Track Edition cabin. Also standard is a RearView monitor.
The all-new Nissan GT-R Track Edition will be present at the New York stage in all its glory. The American customers will be able to get their Godzilla by special order only. US prices are supposed to start at 127,990USD with the cars taking to the roads by late summer 2017.
