-Second generation mass market EV
-Unveiled in 2017
-To be brought in as a showcase of Nissan’s EV prowess
Nissan has announced that it is bringing the Leaf EV to India this year. This is Nissan’s award winning mass market EV and will be the second major model that the automaker will bring to the sub-continent this year.
The company has hinted that the car is being brought in as a showcase of its EV prowess rather than volumes at the moment. The global movement towards EVs has begun and Nissan looks to be playing a long term game by bringing in the Leaf EV.
Unveiled in 2017, this second generation Leaf gets a new design, platform and an electric power train that sees the range increase significantly over the older model. The Leaf, when launched in India, will also be a showcase of Nissan’s foray into new driver and connected car technologies.
Given that it will be a CBU, we expect it to be priced in the range of Rs 30 lakhs to Rs 35 lakhs and it will be a direct rival for the likes of the Toyota Prius and upcoming Hyundai Kona EV as well as the MG EV when it is launched in 2020.
