Nissan India aims to increase its market share from the current 1.5 per cent to 3.6 per cent by March 2014. This plan of action was confirmed to CarWale by Ajay Raghuvanshi, vice president of business management, Nissan Motor India during the launch of the facelifted Micra hatchback and Micra Active.
He also said that they hoped to sell 3000 units of the Micra every month and this number will comprise 70 per cent the facelifted Micra and 30 per cent the Micra Active. Currently the Micra is exported to over 100 countries from India and this will continue with the facelifted version. There are no plans to export the Micra Active but such move is not off the cards if there is demand said Ajay.
When quizzed about a diesel variant for the Micra Active, he said that at present there was no plan to make such a vehicle and once again emphasised that if the demand came up in the future, then they would go ahead with the vehicle. He hinted that there were currently no plans for a compact sedan based on the Micra (it does not exist globally) but it might happen in the future.
Speaking on the Nissan Terrano, he said that it is a Duster clone and will have many of the new features found on the facelifted Micra and will get some kit thanks to it being more expensive than the Duster.
During the event, Kenichiro Yomura, president and CEO also confirmed that Nissan was working to refresh the Evalia MPV in response to poor demand for the vehicle. The refresh is likely to include cosmetic changes both inside and outside in a bid to improve the MPV’s numbers. It is also likely that they may reduce the price to further aid their cause.
