Nico Rosberg in his Mercedes took a comfortable victory in the inaugural Azerbaijan Grand Prix, extending his lead to 24 points in the 2016 Formula 1 championship. Sebastian Vettel finished second in the Ferrari ahead of Force India’s Sergio Perez.
The tight and fast street circuit of Baku is a new addition to the Formula 1 calendar. After incident marred Friday and Saturday sessions, it turned out to be a clean race today with no incidents. Lewis Hamilton in the other Mercedes however had a forgettable weekend after crashing in qualifying and finishing fifth behind Kimi Raikkonen in second Ferrari. Bottas finished sixth ahead of the two Red Bulls of Riccardo and Verstappen, while Hulkenberg and Massa finished ninth and tenth respectively in the second Force India and Williams.
This is the second podium for Force India this season as the Silverstone based team looks to chase down Williams for the fourth position in the constructors title. Ahead, Nico Rosberg leads the driver’s championship ahead of Hamilton and Vettel.
