- The production-ready Yaris hatchback in the Sport and Hybrid guises were put through their paces at the Nurburgring.
- The prototypes were wearing the same Toyota Gazoo Racing GRMN camouflage as the Supra.
After the long-awaited Supra, Toyota has turned its focus towards the next-generation Yaris. Two production-ready prototypes of the hatchback were spotted hooning around the ‘Ring recently wrapped in the Gazoo Racing GRMN wrap akin to the Supra’s.
One of the prototypes appeared to be a Yaris Sport since it had wider wheel arches and low profile tyres. There was also gold finish on the rims hinting at a new sporty detail for the upcoming hot hatch. Meanwhile, the other prototype had a distinct yellow sticker with rather subtle camo wrap on it which made us believe that it could be the hybrid variant.
Moreover, under the wrap, the new, wider grille is hard to miss. This grille is similar to the ones seen on the new crop of Toyota’s like the Camry and Avalon. The Lexus inspired grille is the new design language and it appears that it will make its way on the Yaris as well.
Under the skin, there are reports that the Yaris hatch will move to the newer TNGA platform like all the other modern-day Toyotas. There are no clear details regarding the powertrain at the moment or what new features will come with the next generation of the Yaris.
Given that the near-production model is undergoing full fledge testing with minimal camouflage, the official reveal of the hatchback should be just around the corner. We think the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show should be the appropriate venue for the official reveal before the Yaris goes on sale in the European and American markets. Meanwhile, its sedan version will follow at a later date and that should make its way to India.
