- The G05 X5 is expected to break cover in coming few months.
- The leaked images reveal new design for the SUV
- It will be based on the CLAR platform and will come with rear-wheel steering as well.
BMW has only officially revealed the camouflaged images of the new-gen X5 undergoing its final round of testing. But a couple of undisguised images of the fourth generation SUV have surfaced online revealing the new design language of the X5.
The leaked images conform to a number of spied images of the off-roader and hence we believe these pictures to be the real deal. There are now large nostrils on the X5 since the characteristic Kidney grille has grown in size. This new grille design is similar to the X7 iPerformance Concept and the one seen on the new-gen X3. The headlights have a blue horizontal louvre like the 7 Series and the bumpers get an aggressive style with contrasting black inserts. At the rear, the new tail light design is sleeker and has a new lighting signature. The bumper gets skid plate and integrated dual-exhausts setup.
The new X5 will move to BMW’s new CLAR platform. The interior images from the spy shots reveal an all-digital instrument cluster along with slightly tweaked dashboard. The floating infotainment screen will also be larger whereas the centre console will be dominated by a host of buttons.
Under the hood, the upcoming X5 will reportedly have a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engine options apart from 3.0-litre straight-six. There will also be a 4.4-litre V8 in the top-spec M50i guise until a fully-blown X5 M arrives sometime next year. The xDrive will be standard and the transmission is expected to be the eight-speed automatic.
After its global debut, BMW will promptly launch the new-gen X5 in India as well. It will continue its fray against the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLE, Audi Q7 and Volvo XC90 besides the Range Rover Velar and Porsche Cayenne.
