Volvo has announced that it will launch the next generation S60 sedan and XC60 SUV for the Indian market at a function in Delhi on October 23. The S60 and XC60 were updated at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and get both cosmetic updates but retain the same overall design.
The most significant change in both vehicles is that they now get a more rounded appearance, wider front, revised grille and slimmer lights which now have daytime running LEDs. The S60 gets cornering adaptive lights while XC60 now gets torque vectoring technology as standard.
The interiors too have got some upgrades in the form of new trim for the S60. Both cars now get the touchscreen infotainment system as well as steering mounted paddle shifters (AT only) that was first introduced on the V40 Cross country earlier this year.
The engine and underpinnings for both vehicles will be the same as before.
The S60 competes with the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Jaguar XF 2.2-litre diesel variant. We expect that Volvo will price the new cars Rs 1.5- lakh to Rs 2.2 lakh more than the current vehicles. Volvo currently imports all its vehicles via the CBU route for the Indian market.
